Scholarship duration is determined at the time scholarship is awarded. Extension of scholarship for anything other than advancment into a higher degree program is not possible.
As for scholarship extension for advancement into a higher degree program, however, MEXT Embassy Recommended Scholars and recipients of other certain MEXT Scholarship types designated by MEXT and the university who meet strict eligibility criteria, and who show strong academic prowess in particular, who wish to apply for an extension of MEXT Scholarship in order to cover enrollment into a higher degree program may be permitted to do so (Research Students who wish to enroll into a regular Master’s or Doctoral Program, and Master’s students who wish to enroll into a Doctoral Program).
MEXT Scholars potentially eligible to apply for an extension of their MEXT Scholarship will be notified individually at the appropriate time.
