Application Guidelines, etc (Student Exchange Program)

 

＜2027 Spring and Fall Departures＞ This is information on applying for the 2027 student exchange program. 
The Student Exchange Program allows students to study at one of Ritsumeikan's student exchange partner universities for 1 semester or 1 year. As long as students have paid their tuition to Ritsumeikan University, tuition to the partner university will be exempted. If you are considering participating, please start making preparations and consulting the International Center as early as possible. *Please note that the some application dates have changed from what is listed in the "Study Abroad Guide 2026" (pg. 5-6), so please take note of the updated schedule below:

＜2027 Spring Departure Student Exchange Application Period＞

1st Round　Monday, May 18, 2026 ～ Wednesday, May 20, 2026

2nd Round　Wednesday, September 2, 2026 ～ Friday, September 4, 2026

 

※In the second round of applications, the universities being recruited may vary depending on the remaining number of available slots at each university and the timing of nominations and applications to host institutions.

Destinations: Australia, New Zealand, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Argentina
Departure Dates: February - March 2027

 

＜2027 Fall Departure Student Exchange Application Period＞ (As currently planned)

1st Round　Wednesday, October 7, 2026 ～ Friday, October 9, 2026

2nd Round　Monday, November 24, 2026 ～ Wednesday, November 26, 2026

3rd Round　Tuesday, January 12, 2027 ～ Thursday, January 14, 2027

Destinations: North and Central America, Europe, Asia, Africa 
Departure Dates:　August - October 2027 

 

■Required Language Certification 

・IELTS Academic 
・TOEFL iBT 
・Duolingo English Test 
・Local Language Test（HSK, TOPIK, etc.） 

※The required score depends on which school you plan to go to 
※Please be aware that scores do have a limited validity

☑That your passport is valid for more than the length of the program 
☑ GPA・Status of your grades 
☑ The dates of the language test you plan to take 
☑ Information about the university you want to apply to

* Most of these reports are written in Japanese, as most of the students participating in the exchange program are domestic/Japanese students.
* Some universities have not yet had any participants from Ritsumeikan, so there are no reports for them.

    *Regardless of the duration of the program, the maximum number of participants is one.

    ・University of West Australia 【Important Note on Language Requirements】

    Students are able to apply with an IELTS score of 6.0 (5.5 each). However students that do not fulfill a requirement of 6.5 (6.0 each) may have to conditional admission. Please read the guidelines for details.

  Notes on Preparation
  1. Please check university information that is required for Study Plan (e.g. Country, University Code, Institution Name) in the Application Requirements. 
  2. Application Report must be written either in Japanese or English. 
  3. The designated form of Application Report is MS-Word format (.docx). Please keep the same format when submitting it via the application web form.
  4. The designated form of Study Plan is PDF format. Please make sure to create the file by following the instruction below.
    1. Download the designated 'Study Plan' above onto your PC (save it on the Desktop etc.). 
    2.  Open the file with PDF editing software and fill in the requirements.
    3. Save the contents.
