Career Center offer the job placement support after graduation, please check the details here.
Because “Student” statuses of residence lose their validity upon graduation or completion of studies, in order for international students studying at Ritsumeikan University to continue to stay in Japan, it is necessary to change their status of residence.
For those students who have been searching for a job, but their employer is not yet decided by graduation and wish to continue job hunting after graduation, it is possible to change to a “Designated Activities” status of residence (valid for 6 months) as long as certain requirements are met. In order to apply to change to a “Designated Activities” status of residence at the Immigration Bureau, a letter of recommendation from Ritsumeikan University is required.
Ritsumeikan University holds two application periods per year for the issuance of letters of recommendation. International students from whom the International Center receives an application for a letter of recommendation will undergo a strict evaluation of their studies, lifestyle conditions, job hunting activities up to the time of application, and likelihood of obtaining a job in the future. A letter of recommendation will be issued to those students for whom it is deemed appropriate (Letters of recommendation will not be issued outside of the designated timeline for the semi-yearly application periods or to students who have already graduated).
An information session on acquiring a letter of recommendation was held on Friday, January 28, 2022 for students graduating / completing their studies in AY 2021 Fall Semester. (We plan to hold the information session around end of July for students graduating / completing their studies in AY 2022 Spring Semester )
Please check the materials from that information session on Friday, January 28, 2022 below for your references.
*There are multiple items that need to be confirmed before you submit your application. Please read through the materials early, and proceed with preparing your submission. The last material is a questionnaire, so please fill it out. Submission of the questionnaire will serve as proof that you have read through the information session materials, one of the application requirements.
*If you did not submit the "International Student Attendance Confirmations" conducted monthly by the International Center one or more months, but you were properly engaged in academic and research activities, please submit documents that clearly show this. For example, a signed statement from your supervisor indicating that you had a seminar with your supervisor, or a screenshot of your class assignment submission on manaba+R.
However, please understand in advance that (1) as we have repeatedly reminded everyone by various means to be sure to respond to the monthly attendance confirmation, as a general rule, failure to submit will not be accepted (and will also be severely reviewed during the screening process), and (2) there is no guarantee that you will pass the document screening even if you submit the additional materials mentioned above.
